Projects and Initiatives
The Bakery Society of Pittsburgh (TBSP)
The Bakery Society Pittsburgh (TBSP) is the region’s first and only bakery incubator. Powered by Economic Development South and the Hillman Foundation, this unique establishment is set to open in May 2018 to propel emerging bakers into successful careers.
TBSP is located in the former Kullman’s Bakery (225 Brownsville Road) and plans to have unique menu items, atmosphere, and opportunities for community members to participate and partner with us.
Pet Shop Collaborative Space
The Pet Shop (212 Brownsville Road) was a redevelopment initiative that transformed an old vacant building that used to be a pet store into a collaborative space that is currently inhabited by (5) different tenants that share office space and provide resources to the community including:
- Economic Development South
- The Hilltop Economic Development Corporation
- The Brashear Association
- Neighborworks of Western PA
- UrbanKind Institute
The funds for this project were leveraged by the Mt. Oliver and Knoxville Neighborhood Partnership Program.
Up on the Hilltop
We take Christmas seriously in Mt. Oliver Borough! Up on the Hilltop is an annual event celebrated in the beginning of December that highlights the Business District and encourages people to shop local. Festivities traditionally include food, music, children’s activities, Disney’s Frozen characters, an ice carver, and more. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, December 1, 2018. Stop by and enjoy the festivities and don’t forget to check out our giant, 22′ Christmas Tree across from the Municipal Building.
